One of my inadequacies is how ridiculously easy it is to get under my skin. Especially when I'm in the car. Ugh. Does this happen to anyone else? Now, I'll be the first to admit that I am waaaaaaay better than I used to be. I had a friend in undergrad who would take rides with me just to laugh while I yelled at other drivers. Today I am much calmer. But I talk to everyone around me while I drive. I tell them the stupid ways they drive. How turn signals are not an option to have added to your car which is why they are required by law to be used. They are in every car. I tell them that I greatly appreciate them cutting me off while they're too busy looking at their cell phone to have even seen that I was there. I talk to the drivers of the big dooly (I have no idea if I spelled that right) trucks who seem to think they own the road because they are biggest. I congratulate those drivers specifically on using those 7 gallons of gas to accelerate past me on the left.
Truth? I am probably one of those drivers at times. We all are. We forget that others have places to get too. That getting to the grocery store isn't more important than common courtesy. I say that without having children yet, FYI.
Thanks Shell, as always.

Love you! We all are those drivers.. but I yell at them too! All the time!
ReplyDeleteIf possible, the drivers here are worse than Pittsburgh drivers! I didn't think it possible. And to make matters worse, they don't know about the Pittsburgh left. I can't tell you how many times I almost got creamed in my first week here trying to make a left before oncoming traffic accelerated through the intersection following a red light!
DeleteI curse like a sailor when I drive. It's bad. I ranted about the traffic here in a Monday Listicles last year. Here's the link in case you want to meet your other-driver-hatin' soul sister:

It's so nice to meet you! I just knew there had to be another "me" out there!!!!
DeleteI chat calmly to them. My four year old remembers everything.
ReplyDeleteMaybe I should try this chatting thing now in preparation for future off spring. It may take me awhile.
DeleteCar rides make me crazy!!
ReplyDeleteYelling at other drivers is wonderfully cathartic. I do it all the time...even when others are probably yelling at me!
ReplyDeleteStory of my life! And if you get me on a particularly irritated day... look out. I hate those days. You know what kills me when driving? It's BLINKER BEFORE BRAKE people, not brake before blinker!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteToday the words "You're Japanese! How can you not drive that Honda?!?!" came out of my mouth. Apparently I'm both irritable and capable of stereotyping.
DeleteOh, I so get road rage!
