We Were Swindled By A Carny

True story. Swindled, hustled, taken in, whatever you want to call it. But first...

DH and I went to the Stock Show on Saturday, despite my having some bronchitis. We went and walked and stopped and looked and walked and stopped while waiting for the inevitable double stroller that blocks the entire walkway and walked.

Weirdly enough, we only saw one horse. Apparently you have to pay to see the horses. But there were cows galore. And they were fuzzy. Why is that? Do cows have a winter coat like other animals? Did they all need flatirons? Do they sell Chi's that big?

There was a whole section of goats. Smart people that these owners and ranchers are, most of the goats had feed sacks on. We saw countless goats who were trying to eat the clothes of passing pedestrians but were foiled by their feed sack.

We saw a gigantic chicken. He was almost as big as the coop. Big. The picture probably doesn't do him justice.

And of course there were babies, lots of babies.

Oh, you want to know about the hustling? Well, see, there was also a carnival. The whole shebang - rides, games, food. DH had his first funnel cake with me and we shared fresh lemonade.

And then we played some games. We tried Break the Bottle, Get The Ball in the Milk Can (clearly not the real name) and Black Jack.

Black Jack is where we ran into Trouble with a capital T. This guy talked so fast that I never did figure out the point of the game. All we know is that DH kept being handed darts which he threw and after 5 minutes the Carny said that'd be $20. WHAT? We walked away with my prize, looked at each other and I said "Babe, I think we just got swindled!" and we both started laughing. DH swears he's figured out the game, but I never did.

So what was my beautiful-valuable-can-be-fun-for-hours prize? Charlie the giraffe. We love him. Well, I really love him because his fur is made out of that silky stuff that they use for baby blankets these days. So when DH and I have a family someday I won't have to steal the baby's lovey....Charlie will be mine. Kind of like Joey and Hugsy.

It was a great afternoon! Now I have to go and pet Charlie. He's a relatively needy giraffe.

Moooooo

So DH and I are going to the Stockshow....I thought it would be appropriate to let y'all know as either hilarity or chaos will ensue. Pictures to come and hopefully I will be fittingly cute and not covered in horse manure. It could happen, trust me.

And remember....

Heavens, I hope I can control myself and not wash unsuspecting equines tonight!

Today Is Not My Day

It is cold and rainy. It is dark way too early today. My throat feels like a cheese grater ran down it. I can't go running. My Facebook is all screwed up and duplicating the home page. I didn't have all the answers for a patient today. My hot tea is now lukewarm.

Bah.

On the other hand, DH is bringing me chili from Wendy's. I was pushed out the office door allowed to leave work early since I have a fever. I have on comfortable pants and fuzzy socks. And at one time, I spent this moment with my mom...which totally made it my day.

Linking up with Make Me Laugh Monday...a day late. Hey, it wasn't my day.

Good Morning, Good Morning

While not being the biggest of dog people, this is a pretty great way to start the morning...

Hanging out with Puppy. As long as she doesn't drink any coffee, we'll be fine.

Scenes from the Heart

This holiday season was busy! There was a trip home to the Far North so DH and I could spend time with my lovely family. It was a great trip and we were able to take a lot of time with my parents so DH and they could get to know one another. And get to know Primanti Bros.

He was amazed at the size of the sandwiches - he got the cheese steak with fries and coleslaw, of course.

There was Christmas day with both DH's father and stepmother and his mom and stepfather. And don't forget Sissy - the spoiled pup! But first, check out the faces DH made as he was realizing that he held a skydive gift certificate in his hands...

There was a New Year/DH and I's 1 Year Anniversary weekend which included Truluck's and flowers and friends. Oh, and lions, tigers and bears...and turtles. Thanks DH for my beautiful James Avery hoops!

And finally there was New Year's Day with German/Eastern European traditions of pork and sauerkraut. DH was introduced to this tradition and made his meal slightly more southern. I couldn't object - it's about taking our family traditions and making them our own, right?

Up next? Best Friend and I will get to spend time together 2 months in a row after going a year and a half without laying eyes on one another. Can't wait!!!!
